Let the depression begin!

Ready or not here it comes, rather here it is. Have faith you know what to do. Just keep on, keeping on. Don't expect it to get better for many years. You have experience, because you have been living it for over a year.

See people believe the Depression just appeared as though one day the curtain opened and the market crashed, and jobless people were standing in line at the soup kitchen. In reality, it took time to reach a "depression" level. Today we have food stamps, now a debit card, so the lines have formed in the grocery store, and the Social Services Offices. The destitute wandering men looking for work are a thing of the past. Now, the destitute wonder can remain destitute without leaving their home. Job hunters wander on-line for employment prospects, till they get evicted. Then Its tent city.

At the worst point of the Great Depression, in 1933, one in four Americans who wanted to work was unable to find a job. Further, it was not until 1941, when World War II was underway, that the official unemployment rate finally fell below 10%. This massive wave of unemployment hit before a food stamp program and unemployment insurance existed. There were few government programs designed to help the poor or those in temporary difficulty. Further, most wives did not work, so if the husband lost his job, all income for that household stopped. An equivalent rate of unemployment today would cause less economic hardship because of the variety of programs (often inspired by the Great Depression) that cushion unemployment and poverty.

Gee, sounds like today's financial report, 10% unemployment and at the worst part of the depression........Wouldn't want to see that!!!! O but wait, I am seeing that, and much worse.........On the bright side we are still going down.......Even better we will be the winners!!!! We are going to beat the lows of The Great Depression!!!!!!!! O-Goody!!!!!! WE wouldn't want to finish second place!!!!!

They mention this was before programs like "food stamps" how right they are !!!! ****Waves *** to the author........But he didn't mention those with jobs are now working 4 months a year just to pay taxes, and some much more..... Most didn't have taxes in1933, I think less than 3% if they had taxes at all!!!! (is your spouses income going to keep you afloat? after taxes? But what about the divorcees? less taxes, CS and Alimony deductions? OOPS?)

Also they didn't manipulate un-employment statistics back in '33......Like they manipulate them today. They are reported lower than actual numbers for today's "unemployment insurance" which we didn't have in '33.

Don't worry: bend over the government will drive.
